Popular email client Spark is getting a significant redesign for Mac. It completely overhauls how you approach your inbox, with features like priority email, Smart Inbox, and a Command Center.

Spark is also moving towards a premium model with a new subscription tier. You can continue using the app for free if you don’t need the premium features.

Spark for Mac’s new design will help reduce distractions

Spark for Mac features a new design that groups your emails into different categories. You mark emails as done instead of archiving them. And for emails that you want to read over the weekend or don’t need your immediate action, you can set them aside to free up your inbox. And to prevent you from regularly checking your inbox, Spark now has a home screen from where you can engage directly with your priority emails.

“Spark becomes more than an email application with a few new features. It’s a new philosophy on how people should communicate and organize their work. Our goal with Spark is to help you focus on what’s important and achieve beyond your inbox,” says Alex, Readdle’s co-founder.

If you receive many emails from unknown or new senders, a new Gatekeeper functionality in Spark will scan all such emails. You can then block unwanted senders to save your precious time. The ability to directly send attachments over 25MB in size is another excellent addition — the recipient will get a link to download the file securely.

As a part of the launch, Spark also announced the launch of its Windows app. It is available as a free download.

Spark moves to a subscription model

Spark is moving towards a subscription model with the new design and features. While you can continue using the app for free, many new features are locked behind a subscription. This includes Gatekeeper, the ability to mute threads, and Priority Email. Some existing features are now also a part of the paid tier. But if you are an existing Spark user, you can continue to enjoy them for free.

Spark will cost $7.99 per month for new subscribers, with an annual subscription costing $59.99. For existing users, Spark is providing a 30% discount on the yearly subscription, bringing its price down to $41.99.

We consider Spark among the best email apps for iPhone and Mac, so if you have not already tried it, definitely do now.
