Fans of classic arcade games should enjoy Shovel Knight Dig, a retro adventure game that launched Friday. Players guide a hero down deep into the earth to fight monsters and win treasure with the aid of his trusty Shovel Blade.

The latest offering from Yacht Club Games debuted Friday on Apple Arcade for a range of Apple computers.

Shovel Knight Dig offers retro gaming fun

When the game starts, Shovel Knight is enjoying a quiet evening when Drill Knight steals all his equipment and disappears underground. It’s up to players to dig their way after him.

Underground, they’ll jump, slash and tunnel their way down to visit strange lands. And there’ll be plenty of monsters to fight and a few new friends to make.

The look of Shovel Knight Dig is reminiscent of 8-bit arcade titles of the past. And gameplay is similar, too. This isn’t a complex RPG – it’s a hack-and-slash adventure game.

Shovel Knight Dig by Yacht Club Games is available starting Friday, September 23 from the Apple Arcade section of the App Store. There are versions for iPhone, Mac, iPad and Apple TV. Game controllers are always an option for any of these platforms.

It joins over 200 other titles in Apple’s gaming service playable for a single $4.99-per-month subscription. And a family can share a subscription. New games appear almost every week.

What’s not part of Apple Arcade are irritating requests for in-app purchases or questionable loot boxes – these are banned.
