Apple is using a faster and more power-efficient Snapdragon X65 modem on the iPhone 14 Pro series. This allows the new iPhones to pull faster download speeds on 5G networks.

The new modem also reduces the latency time. Combined, these improvements will provide a better network connectivity experience on the iPhone 14 Pro.

iPhone 14 Pro uses Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon modem

Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max provide 38% faster 5G data speeds on T-Mobile’s network compared to the iPhone 13 Pro. And on Verizon’s network, the new iPhones are 32% faster.

On average, Apple’s 2022 iPhones can pull download speeds of 255Mbps over 5G. SpeedSmart is making these claims based on the few days of data collected in the US. The number is bound to go down as more users upgrade to the iPhone 14, but early signs are promising.

Apart from the faster data speeds, the ping time has also gone down on the iPhone 14 Pro series. On T-Mobile, the iPhone 13 Pro has an average ping time of 62.20ms, while the iPhone 14 Pro averages 52.88ms. Similarly, on Verizon’s network, the new iPhone has an average latency of 37.09 vs. 52.24ms on the older model.

Flagship Android smartphones launched in 2022 already use the Snapdragon X65 modem. Qualcomm claims the X65 can reach a peak theoretical download speed of up to 10Gbps, up from 7.5Gbps on the X60.

Snapdragon X65 is both faster and power-efficient

Besides the faster data speeds, the new modem is power-efficient, which should help battery life. Furthermore, it allows the latest iPhones to talk to low-orbit satellites during an emergency.

While not tested, the non-Pro iPhone 14 models should provide similar results, as they also use the Snapdragon X65 modem.
