When you look at a lot of computer setups showcased on social media, it’s not difficult to see that many of them are staged. They’re so well put together and photographed, you just can’t see normal slobs owning them.

But sometimes the internet tricks you with a surprisingly slick photograph of a real person’s setup. That seems to be the case in today’s featured dual-display MacBook Pro setup, photographs in a cool-gray wash.

“This looks like a render advertising the mouse or something,” one commenter said. “Tron vibes,” added another, referring to the 1982 sci-fi film known for its then-cutting-edge computer animation.

Dual-display MacBook Pro setup looks so slick people think it’s an ad

Redditor DylanAN4 showcased the moody workstation in a post entitled, “My setup… new desk, chair, and speakers soon.” The desk and chair on the verge of replacement are from Ikea.

Dylan runs a 2021 14-inch M1 MacBook Pro base model connected to two angled Dell 27-inch S2721QS 4K monitors. The displays feature ultra-thin bezels, 3840 x 2160 ultra-high-def pixel resolution, HDR playback and AMD FreeSync technology.

Not crazy about the display mount and arms

The two screens are mounted on a Vivo dual-display arm, but it sound like Dylan wishes for something else.

“The monitor stand is really cheap, from a brand called Vivo on Amazon,” they said. “I got it mostly for looks and I don’t recommend it if you want to move or adjust your monitors constantly.”

They added the arm costs just $30. But it’s actually only $24.99 right now (see links list below, if you still want it after Dylan’s brief review).

Belkin Thunderbolt 3 dock

The MacBook Pro and screens connect via a Belkin Thunderbolt 3 Dock Mini. The dock can connect and power dual 4K UHD displays running at 60Hz refresh rates.

It can also connect and power other peripherals, like hard drives, mouse, keyboard, internet connection and more. Belkin also makes Thunderbolt 4 docks, of course.

Modded mechanical keyboard and Razer gaming mouse

Dylan uses input devices that we haven’t seen 6 million times on our Setups travels. Keychron is a commonly seen brand, for sure, but the model of mechanical keyboard in play here isn’t ubiquitous. And the mouse is a rarity (for good reason, it turns out).

One is a modded Keychron K2 V2 mechanical keyboard with a rolled aluminum frame, a 75% layout with 84 keys, Gateron switches and RGB backlighting. It has a Mac layout, but it works with Windows, too.

The other input device is a lightweight Razer Orochi V2 gaming mouse with a Razer 5G Advanced 18K DPI Optical Sensor.

“I recently discovered that this mouse isn’t completely compatible with Mac, so I will be replacing it,” Dylan said.
