Steelseries, known for gaming headsets, has jumped into the desktop speakers pool with a big splash. Its new Arena line of desktop speakers is the company’s first product of that type.
And it includes what the company calls the world’s first 5.1 surround sound speakers you can run with a single USB connection to a Mac, PC, gaming console or TV.

Steelseries’ new Arena line of desktop speakers comes in at three levels at descending price points: Arena 9, Arena 7 and Arena 3.
At the top sits the Arena 9 ($550), a 5.1 true surround-sound system with a central speaker with a pair of drivers, two front speakers, two rear speakers and a 6.5-inch subwoofer. Steelseries called it the “world’s first USB 5.1 gaming speaker system with surround sound from a single USB connection.”
At the mid-level, the Arena 7 ($300) is a pair of speakers with separate 3-inch drivers and 0.75-inch tweeters, plus a 6.5-inch down-firing subwoofer.
And at an entry level, the Arena 3 ($130) comprises two compact speakers with cone-shaped, 4-inch drivers.
Both the Arena 9 and 7 sets feature RGB lighting, but Steelseries’ special “reactive” functionality that fluctuates along with gaming action is PC-only.
All three products work via both wired and Bluetooth connections. You can use Steelseries’ Sonar app to fine-tune sound (Windows only). And all three can accommodate a wired headset for private listening.
