You might not need the latest, greatest computer if you just need a laptop to get the job done. So, whether you’re looking for a travel computer that you aren’t afraid to toss in a bag, or need a budget laptop that can get you through the school year, buying refurbished MacBooks is the way to go.

One example is this refurbished 13.3-inch MacBook Air that’s been marked down to just $250.

A budget laptop that works great

When you shop for a new laptop, you have to consider what you plan to use it for. For example, this refurbished MacBook Air costs less than many new tablets and could still work well as a no-frills laptop. It’s an older model (released in 2015), so it doesn’t come with Apple silicon inside. However, it packs 4GB of RAM, an Intel Core i5 1.6GHz processor, a 128GB SSD and a 13.3-inch Retina display.

It shouldn’t be your go-to for rendering 8K videos. But if you’re just running Microsoft Office or browsing, this computer works fine. Of course, if you’re looking for a high-end computer that can play games at maximum graphical settings and run every app you find, you’ll have to pay extra for that. (Want some insight on which laptop is right for you? Read our guide: M1 vs. M2 MacBook Air: Which one should you buy?)

Though it may have some scuffs and dents, this MacBook should run just fine. Signs of wear and tear should be superficial, and that’s nothing a high-quality case can’t hide. It weighs only 3 pounds, so you could pack this MacBook and take it on the road with you if you work remotely or travel frequently. It may collect a few more scrapes that way, but that’s what beater laptops are for.

Save on a 13.3-inch MacBook Air

You may not always need an expensive, brand-new computer. Instead, shop new-to-you and find a machine that will get the job done. You can even lower your carbon footprint while you’re at it. For a limited time, get a refurbished 13.3-inch MacBook Air on sale for $250.

Prices subject to change.
