Apple’s svelte new M2 MacBook Air will reportedly go on for sale starting July 15.

Announced at WWDC22, pre-orders for the redesigned Air should commence on July 8, a week before the retail launch.

M2 MacBook Air pre-orders could go live soon

Apple only mentioned the M2 MacBook Air would go on sale “next month” when it announced the machine in early June at WWDC22. Other details about its availability were not mentioned.

A new MacRumors report based on a retail source claims the M2 MacBook Air will be available in stores starting Friday, July 15. Typically, Apple starts accepting pre-orders for devices a week before they go on sale. So, the M2 Air pre-orders should go live on Friday, July 8.

Apple does not usually take so long to put its new products on sale after their announcement. However, the supply-chain disruption caused by the lockdown in Shanghai could have disrupted its plans this time.

Apple’s new MacBook Air features a sleek new design

The M2 MacBook Air features a completely redesigned chassis that’s lighter and slimmer than the outgoing model. The new M2 chip also brings a noticeable uplift in CPU and GPU performance. Apple claims up to 40 percent faster performance in Final Cut Pro than the previous Air. Despite the faster chip, the new Air can last up to 18 hours on a single charge.

The 2022 13-inch MacBook Pro also comes with an M2 chip. If you are confused about which Mac to buy, go through our M2 MacBook Air vs. M2 MacBook Pro comparison.

Pricing for the M2 MacBook Air starts from $1,199, making it $200 more expensive than the previous model. This could explain why Apple will continue selling the $999 M1 MacBook Air alongside the newer model.
