While the Plugable UD-ULTC4K doesn’t have a very exciting name, the USB-C hub does boast a whopping 13 ports. It can add up to three high-res external displays to a Mac, plus USB-A accessories, Ethernet and more.
It’s an improved version of a popular model that first launched back in 2017.

Plugable UD-ULTC4K is a triple-screen USB-C dock
“Based on more than five years of user feedback, the USB-C docking station has been rebuilt from the ground up, adding plenty of new features and improved specs, while still providing three additional 4K displays to compatible laptops,” said Plugable.
The original version of the UD-ULTC4K had a single HDMI port and two for DisplayPort. The just-launched version has three DisplayPort ports and three HDMI ports in pairs. These allow the user to plug in a trio of monitors. The displays can be all of one type or a mix of HDMI and DisplayPort. Whatever the type, screen resolutions go up to 4K at 60Hz on all three.
The triple-monitor setup is compatible with macOS 11, macOS 12 and later. And that includes M1 and M2 Macs.
On the back of the UD-ULTC4K desktop dock are four USB 3.0 ports, an Ethernet port, and a USB-C port that supports 100W charging. On the front are a 10Gbps/20W USB-C port, an SD card reader with UHS-II support, and separate audio input and output ports.
“This docking station is a one-stop shop for all peripherals users may need, all connected through a single cable back to the laptop,” says its developer.
It uses USB-C, but is also compatible with the Thunderbolt 3 and Thunderbolt 4 ports on recent Mac and iPad Pro models.
The Plugable UD-ULTC4K launched Tuesday. It is available now on Amazon.com for $279 with a $15 off coupon.
