A new report said Sonos will soon release an affordable subwoofer called “Sub Mini” to pair wirelessly with its soundbar lineup. That will include the new, nicely priced Sonos Ray.
Leak shows Sonos set to release smaller, more affordable Sub Mini subwoofer to pair with soundbars
Sonos will release a smaller, more affordable subwoofer that will wirelessly pair with the new Sonos Ray and the rest of its soundbar lineup, according to The Verge.
Sonos is working on a the Sub Mini, a smaller version of its $749 Sub. You’ll be able to pair the new mini subwoofer with the company’s second-generation Beam, the Arc, and the new Ray, which came out earlier this month.
A previous leak had Sonos describing the Sub Mini as a “smaller, cylindrical subwoofer,” and the new rendered version The Verge saw reflects that.
The primary characteristic besides smaller size that sets the Sub Mini hardware apart is an elongated, pill-shaped vertical cutout in the middle of the device. The larger Sub features a rectangular cutout with acoustic ports on both sides.
So it seems likely the Sub Mini will have a similar layout but with smaller, less powerful components. It makes sense it would retain the same design sense as the rest of Sonos’ current home theater lineup.
Unfortunately, Sonos has yet to disclose the features list, dimensions, price and release date for the Sub Mini.
In addition to the Ray soundbar ($279), Sonos also said recently it will launch its own voice control system for its speakers. That will let users to say “Hey Sonos” to control compatible music services, including Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, Pandora and Sonos Radio.
