Cha Cha Real Smooth looks to be a romance, a drama and a comedy all rolled into one. What do you call that? A rom-dramedy?

At any rate, Apple TV+ just put out the first trailer for the unconventional love story starring Dakota Johnson and Cooper Raiff. It premieres on June 17.

Apple TV+ trailer for Cha Cha Real Smooth looks awkwardly funny and sweet, but also dramatic

Apple TV+ acquired the rights to stream Cha Cha Real Smooth earlier this year. The film, directed by Raiff, won the Audience Award at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival.

The story centers around Andrew (Raiff), a 22-year-old just out of college with no prospects for the future. He lives at home with his parents and younger brother in New Jersey.

His life changes when he’s hired as a “party starter,” or a sort of motivational dancer, at bar and bat mitzvahs thrown for his younger brother’s classmates.

He’s at one those parties when he befriends Domino (Dakota Johnson) and her daughter Lola (newcomer Vanessa Burghardt). As he becomes closer to them as Lola’s babysitter, he starts to realize what he wants out of life. The trailer shows a complex and risky love triangle starting to form with Andrew, Domino and her fiance as its points.

Cooper Raiff writes, directs, and stars alongside Johnson, Burghardt, Brad Garrett, Leslie Mann and Evan Assante. Picturestart, Teatime Pictures and Endeavor Content produced the film.

Cha Cha Real Smooth premieres on June 17 on Apple TV+ and in select theaters. Apple TV+ is available by subscription for $4.99 per month (with seven-day free trial) or as part of any tier of the Apple One subscription bundle.
