The latest addition to the award-winning Badlands series is the first with online multiplayer gaming. Badlands Party is physics-based side-scroller like its predecessors – it’s just more social.

The game launched Friday exclusively on Apple Arcade.

You and your friends can go to a Badlands Party

In the Badlands series, players start out in a forest full of inhabitants, trees and flowers. But there’s something terribly wrong. It’s up to players to find out what’s going on as they find their way through imaginative traps and obstacles.

Badlands Party makes the game more social. It can be played locally with up to four players, or go online and play with Game Center friends. The game offers split screen and support for game controllers.

Even single-player mode offers an Al companion and character switching.

The teams will need to “take down giant machines in epic boss-fights, co-operate to solve multiplayer puzzles, roll, fly, swim and dive through the beautiful lush world of Badland,” according to HypeHype/Frogmind.

There are 40 levels on launch day, and the developer promises that more are on the way as free updates.

Now on Apple Arcade

Badlands Party launched Friday on Apple’s subscription gaming service. There are versions for iPhone, Mac, iPad and Apple TV. No matter the platform, an external game controller is an option.

An updated version of the original dubbed Badlands+ is also included in Apple Arcade. Playing either, or any of the 200+ other games that are part of Apple’s gaming service, comes with a single $4.99-a-month subscription. And a family can share that subscription.
