Apple TV+ revealed that For All Mankind season 3 will premiere in June, with the alternate-history sci-fi series headed for Mars.

A teaser trailer gives a first look at the new frontier the show will explore.

For All Mankind season 3 leaves the moon, blasts off for Mars

For All Mankind has an 87% critics’ approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. And Rolling Stone said season two “delivered the year’s best, most assured, most intensely satisfying stretch of TV.” The sci-fi series built a loyal following since the debut in 2019, starting with a unique premise: what if the U.S. wasn’t the first country to reach the moon?

The first season took place in the 1960s, and the second jumped forward to the 1980s. Season three will start in 1995, with the focus jumping to Mars.

The series is alternate history, so NASA is still competing with Soviet cosmonauts as the Red Planet becomes the new front in the space race. Plus, there’s an unexpected new entrant in the competition — it’s not just the US and the Soviet Union headed for Mars.

Apple TV+ promised Monday that For All Mankind season will will start Friday, June 10, 2022. This will be followed by a new episode every Friday until the 10-episode season is complete.

Despite a jump forward by about a decade, much of the cast is returning. That includes Joel Kinnaman, Shantel VanSanten, Jodi Balfour, Sonya Walger, Krys Marshall, Cynthy Wu, Casey Johnson, Coral Peña and Wrenn Schmidt. And Edi Gathegi will play a new series regular.

The first two seasons of For All Mankind are now available to stream on Apple TV+. Watching them, or the upcoming episodes, comes with a $4.99-a-month subscription.
