Call of Duty: Warzone, the immensely popular battle royale game, is coming to mobile devices. Activision this week confirmed it is looking for engineers, designers, and more to help bring the “all-new, AAA mobile experience” to life.

Call of Duty Mobile already has its own battle royale mode, and while it may be fun for short play sessions on the go, it pales in comparison to its full-scale counterpart on PC and console.

Call of Duty: Warzone coming to mobile

Call of Duty: Warzone made its debut in March 2020 as a successor to Call of Duty: Blackout. The free-to-play game was built to cash in on the rising popularity of the battle royale genre, made famous by the likes of Fortnite.

Over the past two years, Warzone has surpassed 100 million active players and proven a huge success for Activision. The game sees regular “season” updates — like its rivals — with new maps and content that keep things fresh.

Warzone this year will receive new enhancements for the latest consoles from Microsoft and Sony, and at some point in the future, you will finally be able to play it on the go. Activision is now recruiting for Warzone on mobile.

Help Activision build Warzone for mobile

“We are creating an all-new, AAA mobile experience that will bring the thrilling, fluid and large-scale action of Call of Duty: Warzone to players on the go,” reads the announcement published on Thursday.

“Join our growing, award-winning team of mobile veterans and emerging talent on this ambitious mission. We are seeking skilled operators in all aspects of game development.”

Activision, soon to be owned by Microsoft, isn’t offering too many details yet, but it promises Warzone for mobile will be built from the ground up with “cutting-edge technology designed to entertain gamers around the world for many years to come.”

No release date yet

There is no release date for Call of Duty: Warzone on mobile yet, and that’s not too surprising at this stage. With Activision still recruiting for the project, it’s likely to be some time — perhaps even several years — before it’s finished.

Nevertheless, this is still an exciting development for Call of Duty fans looking to get their Warzone fix on the go.
