In the 28th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards held Sunday night, Apple TV+ won two awards apiece for its sports comedy hit series Ted Lasso and its popular and groundbreaking film CODA.
Ted Lasso scores two SAG Awards
As you might expect, Apple TV+ released a statement about the wins.
Juggernaut success story Ted Lasso made the streaming service proud once again. It scored SAG’s award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series for its second season.
And Jason Sudeikis, co-creator and star of the series about an American football coach who takes the reigns at a fictional Premiere League soccer club in the U.K., walked away with yet another award, too. He nabbed Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series for the second year in a row.
And CODA makes history with two wins, as well
For its part, the Apple Original film CODA made history with two awards, as well.
Apple TV+ purchased the rights to the emotionally rich indie film for $25 million after its success at the Sundance Film Festival. The film’s story centers on a hearing child of deaf adults, or CODA. She struggles to reconcile her dream of being a singer with her responsibilities to her family in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and its fishing business.
“CODA makes history as the first film with a predominantly Deaf cast to receive the award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. And lead actor Troy Kotsur becomes the first Deaf actor to receive an individual SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role,” Apple said.
