WhatsApp for iPhone just got a big improvement to voice messaging that means you no longer have to put other replies on hold. The app now continues to play a voice message you’ve already started even if you jump into another chat.

It’s part of a bunch of improvements WhatsApp plans for audio notes, which also include the ability to replay a message you’ve recorded before sending it.

WhatsApp improves voice messaging

WhatsApp has been working hard to make various upgrades to its iPhone app in recent months. It has added true multi-device support, easy data transfers from Android, Focus mode support, and contact images in notifications.

And there’s plenty more to come, including two-step verification across multiple devices, emoji reactions, and (if we’re lucky) a much-anticipated iPad app. In the meantime, WhatsApp is improving voice messaging.

Until now, if you started listening to a voice message in WhatsApp and then left the conversation to reply to someone else, playback would stop. In the version 22.4.75, that’s no longer the case. Playback continues wherever you go.

Well, wherever you go inside WhatsApp. Playback is still paused if you leave WhatsApp to use another app.

More voice improvements on the way

WhatsApp is testing other improvements to voice messaging that we should see in the coming months. They include the ability to pause and resume recordings, and to replay a recording before you send it to make sure it’s good.

Be sure to keep WhatsApp for iPhone updated to get the latest improvements as soon as they roll out to everyone.
