If your computer setup tends to get cluttered — and whose doesn’t? — you have a new tool. That is, if you own a 24-inch iMac or plan to get one, anyway. On Tuesday Twelve South rolled out an updated version of its popular BackPack shelf just for the latest M1 desktop Macs.

Using the BackPack shelf, you can stash all sorts of stuff, like USB-C hubs, hard drives and other devices, out of sight behind your computer.

Updated: Twelve South BackPack for 24-inch iMac

Twelve South launched the original BackPack more than a decade ago for Apple displays with flared desk stands, and then updated it. Now it gets an update to work with Apple’s newest iMac design, the M1-powered 24-inch iMac.

The BackPack does the same things as before.  It provides a handy little out-of-sight space for various peripherals, or even a MacBook. Think of it as a “storage rack for the back of your Mac,” as the company puts it.

One color with a new look

The new BackPack comes in just one color, matte white. That should go well enough with the new iMacs’ various colors. The shelf’s aluminum build attaches to the M1 iMac’s stand. A series of airflow holes help keep devices on the shelf cool.

A two-piece holster snaps into the iMac stand’s oval cutout. The shelf has a sleek look, featuring clear plastic mounts rather than the previous device’s clamps.

While Twelve South doesn’t note just how much weight it can hold, there is an included strap to help keep things in place. The old BackPack held 3.5 pounds, enough for light laptops.

The Twelve South BackPack for 24-inch iMac is available for $44.99 on the company’s website and will probably come to Amazon soon.

Price: $44.99
