A new Apple TV+ trailer for the Apple Original documentary series Lincoln’s Dilemma shows Honest Abe in a new light, as historians reflect upon what he was really about and how the changing country challenged the president who never asked to be “The Great Emancipator.”
The four-part series hits Apple TV+ all at once, not one episode at a time, on February 18.
Lincoln’s Dilemma official trailer
The two-minute official trailer highlights the theme of Lincoln’s Dilemma, touching on Abraham Lincoln’s identity and political goals — and the effect the country’s turbulent state and persuasive influencers like Frederick Douglass had on them during his presidency.
The trailer offers glimpses of the journalists, educators and scholars who were interviewed for the series. At the same time, it displays some of the documentary’s striking artwork.
Apple TV+ described the series as a “21st-century examination of a complicated man in the context of his times” that features never-before-heard stories about Lincoln as well as “close-up perspectives of him as a man.”
The series is based on historian David S. Reynolds’ book Abe: Abraham Lincoln in His Times” and narrated by Jeffrey Wright. It features the voices of Bill Camp as Abraham Lincoln and Leslie Odom Jr. as Frederick Douglass.
The documentary both looks at Lincoln in a new light and gives voice to enslaved people’s stories. In doing so, it shapes “a more complete view of an America divided over issues including economy, race and humanity, and underscoring Lincoln’s battle to save the country, no matter the cost,” Apple TV+ said.
Eden Productions and Kunhardt Films produced the documentary for Apple TV+. Peter Kunhardt, Teddy Kunhardt, George Kunhardt, Josh Tyrangiel, Richard Plepler, Jacqueline Olive, Barak Goodman, and Jelani Cobb serve as executive producers. Olive and Goodman also direct the show.
All four parts of Lincoln’s Dilemma become available on Friday, February 18 on Apple TV+.
The streaming service is available by subscription for $4.99 a month with a seven-day free trial. For a limited time, customers who purchase and activate a new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac or iPod touch can get three free months of Apple TV+.
