Netflix has raised its prices for subscribers in the United States and Canada so that it “can continue to offer a wide variety of quality entertainment options.”

Its premium plan, which offers 4K content, is now $19.99 a month. The company’s most affordable subscription, which allows only one stream at a time, is up to $9.99 a month, making it the most expensive video service.

Netflix raises prices in the US and Canada

Netflix still offers a number of different subscription plans to suit your budget. But all of them have seen their prices increase by $1 to $2 per month. It’s the first time Netflix has hiked its prices in the U.S. since October 2020.

Here’s how each price plan has changed. Note all prices are in U.S. dollars:

  • Basic (one stream) — up from $8.99 a month to $9.99 a month
  • Standard (two streams + HD) — up from $14.99 a month to $15.49 a month
  • Premium (four streams + 4K) — up from $17.99 a month to $19.99 a month

These increases mean that Netflix is now the most expensive video streaming service in the U.S. if you want 4K video. In comparison, Amazon Prime Video is $8.99 and HBO Max is priced at $14.99. Apple TV+ is still just $4.99 a month.

Netflix has the power

Of course, Netflix has the largest catalog of moves and TV shows, and a whole bunch of originals that are regularly well received. It also recently added games to its lineup, though there aren’t many of them just yet.

Its ever-growing library gives Netflix more power over the market than its rivals have. And it seems that customers are happy to pay more, with Netflix continuing to see growth after increasing prices in the past.
