The displays in the two “standard” iPhone 14 versions will be upgraded to 120Hz ProMotion, according to a prediction by an industry analyst. And they supposedly will come with 50% more RAM.
There’ve been plenty of rumors about the iPhone 14 Pro models, so those interested in the two standard ones should be pleased to get some leaked details.
iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max get ProMotion, more RAM
Both 2021’s iPhone 13 Pro models come with ProMotion displays with up to a 120Hz refresh rate, and surely this will carry through to the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro models. The feature is also coming to the standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max, reports Jeff Pu, an analyst with Haitong International Securities, in a new research note seen by MacRumors.
The move from 60Hz to 120Hz should make the display buttery smooth when scrolling webpages, swiping through photos and playing games.
Update: A later report denies that the non-Pro iPhone 14 models will have 120Hz ProMotion displays.
In addition, the analyst predicts both the non-Pro handsets will offer 6GB of RAM, up from 4GB. This is another upgrade that debuted in the iPhone 13 Pro models.
Pu also says both iPhone 14 Pro models will come with 6GB of RAM, the same as this year’s model. That’s walking back a prediction from late 2021 in which he said these will bump up to 8GB of RAM.
More about the 2022 iPhone
Autumn 2022 supposedly will bring two 6.7-inch models (iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max), as well as two 6.1-inch models (iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro).
There’s been a flurry of rumors about the Pro versions because they supposedly will drop the screen cutout affectionately known as the notch. Instead, a recent unconfirmed report points to a pair of small screen cutouts taking the notch’s place. The two standard iPhone 14 versions allegedly will keep the notch, however.
Earlier this week, display expert Ross Young dashed hopes about another feature rumored for the 2022 iPhone. He predicted iPhone 14 will not bring in-screen Touch ID.
