Camera updates could again be a big reason to upgrade to the newest iPhone lineup next year, with Apple expected to pack new 48-megapixel sensors — by far its biggest to date — into iPhone 14 Pro.

The sensors would enable 8K video recording on iPhone for the first time, as well as provide greater augmented reality experiences. iPhone 14 Pro will also pack up to 8GB of RAM, according to one analyst.

iPhone 14 Pro in line for big camera upgrades

Earlier rumors have predicted iPhone 14 will deliver a major design overhaul inspired by iPhone 4. It is expected to introduce iPhone’s first “hole punch” display, and could finally add the long-awaited display-embedded Touch ID.

And that’s not all we have to look forward to, according to Haitong International Securities Jeff Pu. In a new research note, seen by MacRumors, Pu predicts Apple’s next-generation iPhone models will also feature 48-megapixel cameras.

The cameras, which are expected will work alongside upgraded 12-megapixel Ultra Wide and Telephoto lenses, will be exclusive to Pro devices, Pu said. This corroborates claims made by TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Pu has also said that all iPhone 14 models will feature 120Hz ProMotion displays, and that some will feature just 64GB of storage. Both of these things seem unlikely, especially considering all iPhone 13 models offer at least 128GB.

8GB of RAM for iPhone 14 Pro

Finally, Pu, who has a mixed track record of predicting Apple’s plans, said iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will offer up to 8GB of RAM. This, alongside the improved cameras, are expected to allow 8K video recording for the first time.

The upgrades could also lead to better augmented reality experiences, which may be a key selling point of next year’s iPhone lineup, with Apple also rumored to be introducing its first mixed reality headset late next year.
