China-based audio specialist Edifier said Monday its new MP230 Bluetooth speaker — a CES 2022 Innovation Award Honoree — is now shipping. For a hundred bucks, the portable stereo acoustic speakers come in a wood frame that would not look out of place in your grandfather’s den. Yet you can take your tunes outside, too.

Edifier MP230: Wood-framed speakers that go anywhere
Edifier, based in Beijing, distributes products in 70 countries. The company said it created the MP230 to better fit consumers with varying audio needs in any location.
The speakers blend portability with the design and technology of wood-framed bookshelf speakers. That enables you to bring soundscapes to your dorm, living room or even outside. The piano key buttons and “boutique mesh” add to the vintage vibe.
The portable stereo acoustic speakers include two 48mm, full-range drivers with integrated double passive radiators and a wooden enclosure. That’s designed to provide rich audio while reducing acoustic resonance.
Equipped with a TAS5822M amplifier chipset by Texas Instruments, the MP230’s two speakers each support power output up to 25W.

With the MP230, you have the option to play music wirelessly via Bluetooth 5.0 or through the AUX input and TF card. The 16-hour playback time should give you all-day use no matter where you go, Edifier said.
The speakers’ “warm, wooden mid-century modern design fits any aesthetic while giving a vintage flair,” the company said.

Though known for speakers, the company launched its hi-res Neobuds Pro earbuds over the summer.
