Disney+ just got a new update that adds SharePlay support on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. The feature allows up to 32 people to get together and watch the same TV shows and movies simultaneously over FaceTime.

SharePlay is available across content from all Disney brands, including Marvel, National Geographic, Star Wars, and more. But you’ll need a device running iOS 15.1, iPadOS 15.1, or tvOS 15.1 to take advantage of it.

SharePlay comes to Disney+

With Covid-19 cases on the rise again and the holidays right around the corner, SharePlay couldn’t have launched at a better time. You can get together with friends to watch your favorite shows, even if you can’t see them in person.

Disney+ is the latest to add SharePlay support to its app, following in the footsteps of Twitch and Apple’s own services, including Apple TV and Apple Music. Simply download its latest update from the App Store to get started.

SharePlay in Disney+ works across iPhone, iPad and Apple TV — so long as you’re running iOS 15.1, iPadOS 15.1, or tvOS 15.1 or later. You can initiate it by jumping on a FaceTime call, then opening the Disney+ app and playing content.

GroupWatch isn’t going anywhere

Up to 32 people are supported by SharePlay, and all participants have the ability to play, pause, fast forward, and rewind content. Users can also choose their own individual audio language and subtitle settings.

Disney+ already had its own SharePlay-like feature called GroupWatch, and fortunately for those who like using that, it will continue to be available.
