Apple Card users could be running into problems paying their bill on Friday because the online portion of the service is having a problem. This might also affect other aspects of using the card, but that does not include using the card to pay for purchases.

Update: Apple reported the problem fixed on Friday evening about 7.5 hours after it first cropped up.

Apple Card has an ‘issue’ today

Friday is the first of October so bills for September went out to Apple Card users. But many of these people ran into problems paying the bill… and not the usual one.

A check of Apple’s official System Status page shows the messaging service has as “Issue.” The iPhone-maker warns that this means, “some users may not be able to apply for Apple Card, pay their bill, lock/unlock their physical card, request a new or replacement physical card, or request a new card number.”

Currently, the outage has been going on for nearly 3 hours. As noted, this doesn’t affect cardholders’ ability to buy things or pay for services. And that has happened in the past — in June, a problem prevented the card from being used for its intended purpose by some users for two days.

No other Apple services currently report problems. Everything else on the System Status page displays a green light.
