Apple on Friday released an update for iOS 15 that takes care of a bug that disabled Unlock with Apple Watch on the iPhone 13 series. This patch — dubbed iOS 15.0.1 — has other bug fixes too, including one that incorrectly told users their storage was nearly full.
The new version is accompanied by iPadOS 15.0.1 with its own bug fixes.
Apple Watch wearers need iOS 15.0.1 now
After the recently-released iPhone 13 reached consumers, users began complaint that they couldn’t use an Apple Watch to unlock an iPhone while wearing a face mask.
This problem has been dealt with. The release notes for Friday’s patch say, “iOS 15.0.1 includes bug fixes for your iPhone including an issue where some users could not unlock iPhone 13 models with Apple Watch.”
Plus, iPadOS 15.0.1 as well as the iPhone version takes care of mistaken “storage almost full” warnings. According to Apple, this bug resulted in “Settings app may incorrectly display an alert that storage is full.”
There were no patches released Friday for watchOS 8 or tvOS 15. These were released on the date as the iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 upgrades but apparently don’t have bugs that need fixing immediately. But Apple did release a Device Support Update for macOS Big Sur on Thursday.
How to install the updates
Install iOS 15.0.1 or iPadOS 15.0.1 by connecting the device to a Mac, or to a PC running iTunes. Alternatively, an over-the-air update is also possible. That’s accomplished by opening the Settings app and going to General > Software Update.
