We were right all along?

We’ve all been referring to Apple’s next-generation iPhone lineup as “iPhone 13” for months now. And according to a spy shot published by one leaker this week, we’ve been right on the money.

Despite suggestions Apple might change its naming convention for iPhone this fall due to superstition around the number 13, it looks like Cupertino isn’t (fortunately!) going to take any notice of that.

A lot of people believe the number 13 to be unlucky, so they avoid it at all costs. A recent survey revealed more than 18% of the 3,005 respondents would be put off by the next iPhone if it includes the number 13 in its name.

Apple doesn’t seem to care too much about all that.

iPhone 13 will be named iPhone 13

A spy shot, first posted to Weibo then highlighted on Twitter by leaker DuanRui, seems to confirm iPhone 13 will indeed be called iPhone 13. The image shows what appears to be a part of the handset’s packaging.

It looks genuine, but we can’t be sure.

Although we can’t confirm the image is genuine at this stage, we are only weeks away from Apple’s next-generation iPhone unveiling, and it wouldn’t be the first time photos like this have emerged close to a product launch.

If it is accurate, it means Apple will once again skip the “S” branding it has used for incremental iPhone upgrades in the past. It did the same last year when it replaced the iPhone 11 series with iPhone 12.

What to expect from iPhone 13

In addition to a new name, the iPhone 13 series is expected to bring a faster A15 processor and camera improvements. We could also see larger batteries, faster ProMotion displays, and up to 1TB of storage for Pro models.

A recent report also claimed Apple plans to bring LiDAR Scanners to all iPhone 13 models — not just Pro and Pro Max — this year. However, those hoping for the return of Touch ID are likely going to be disappointed.
