This isn’t your parents’ Tetris. N3TNetwork updated the classic puzzle game to give it some rhythm — the result is Tetris Beat.

It launched today on the gaming service Apple Arcade.

Tetris Beat adds a new spin

The updated classic is still Tetris at its heart, with players rotating and dropping Tetriminos hoping to clear the board. But the Apple Arcade addition adds songs from Alison Wonderland, GARZA, Hannah Diamond, Octo Octa, Dauwd, CINTHIE and many more. With new tracks added every month.

“We collaborated individually with each artist on everything from their song structure to the colors and visual themes in order to meld their personality with the Tetris Beat gameplay,” said Lawrence Clark, Executive Producer of Tetris Beat. “This level of partnership is unprecedented and we couldn’t be more delighted to share it with the Apple Arcade audience.”

Plus, the Dance, Hip Hop and Pop music is more than just background. In Drop mode, players need to keep to the rhythm of the song when dropping Tetriminos. Or there’s Tap mode, in which players choose the most strategic Ghost Piece to tap in time to the beat. But there’s also Marathon mode for those who prefer the classic version.

Play it now

N3TNetwork’s Tetris Beat can be downloaded now from the Apple Arcade section of the App Store. There are versions for iPhone, Mac, iPad and Apple TV, and support for external game controllers.

Playing it requires a $4.99-per-month subscription to Apple’s gaming service. But that includes 203 other games, both originals and classics that made the jump to Apple Arcade.

And new games arrive almost every Friday. The next addition will be Baldo: The Guardian Owls, a Zelda-like puzzle adventure. It’s set to debut August 27.
