Tom Hanks sci-fi charmer ‘Finch’ premieres on Apple TV+ Nov. 5

Tom Hanks’ second movie for Apple TV+ will debut Friday, November 5. The screen legend will star in Finch, a heart-warming story about a man trying to teach a robot about life.

In addition to revealing the premiere date, Apple released the first picture from the film on Thursday.

Finch isn’t a typical family drama

Hanks will play the title character in Finch, a robotics engineer who’s one of the few survivors of a cataclysm. When Finch realizes his beloved dog is going to outlive him, he builds a robot to care for his pet. He then tries to show his creation the joy of being alive. But the film will be an adventure too, as the trio take journey across a wasteland.

The World War II naval epic Greyhound was the first collaboration between Hanks and Apple. It pulled in a significant audience and generally positive reviews.

But he won‘t be the only award-wining actor in the cast. The robot will be played by Caleb Landry Jones, who has a Screen Actors Guild Award for his role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

The screenplay for Finch is by Craig Luck and Ivor Powell. Powell has experience in this genre — he was an associate producer for the sci-if classics Blade Runner and Alien.

Watching the film will require a $4.99-a-month subscription to Apple TV+. The streaming service, while still fairly new, has a growing collection of other offerings, including thrillers, crime dramas, comedies and documentaries.
