San Mateo, California-based smart home equipment maker Brilliant completed its HomeKit rollout with updates adding Apple’s smart home platform to a smart plug and a wall switch.

Brilliant sells a variety of smart products, including wall panels, dimmer switches, smart plugs and related parts.

Brilliant already incorporated HomeKit into its smart wall panels, which came out at CES 2020, in January of that year. The smart plug and wall switch updates, via a firmware update, make good on the promised full implementation.

The newly enabled functionality lets users control the plug and switch via HomeKit by using the Home app. The hardware can be added to automations set by the user in HomeKit.

Wall switch exception

One exception to the new HomeKit functionality is the in-wall switch’s motion sensor, which rests on top of the switch. It can be used to turn lights on or off based on whether someone is in the room or not. However, it is not yet integrated with HomeKit, according to a report in AppleInsider.

The switch also has a sliding dimmer feature and works with a variety of smart bulbs from different makers.

Smart plug

The Brilliant smart plug is similar to other smart plugs in a rather crowded market. It features a round facade and a physical power button on the side. It can be used in conjunction with smart wall panels and the motion sensor on the Brilliant wall switch.

Where to buy

You can find the Brilliant Smart Home Plug on Amazon for $29.99. The Brilliant Smart Dimmer Switch, available in white, black, gray and light almond colors, goes for $69.97.
