Queen Elizabeth II may not be the biggest fan of Apple TV+. According to a report from the U.K.’s Daily Mail, the queen signed off on her grandson, Prince Harry, doing a show for the streaming service — but was possibly misled about its contents.

The report claims the queen believed the show, The Me You Can’t See, was “about veterans’ mental health – not to air his dirty emotional laundry and launch a ‘personal attack’ on the royal family.”

The Me You Can’t See and the royal family

Elizabeth supposedly agreed it would be OK for Harry to do the show back in 2018, a year before the prince’s signing with Apple TV+ for a show was first revealed. It was also more than a year before Harry and Megan announced they were stepping back from royal duties and heading to the United States.

Somewhere along the line, it seems the Apple TV+ series diverged from what the royal family had been expecting. The series, which debuted this month, featured a number of explosive revelations.

At one point in the show, Harry recounts feeling “trapped” within the royal family.

“There was no option to leave,” he said. “Eventually when I made that decision for my family, I was still told, ‘You can’t do this,’ And it’s like, ‘Well how bad does it have to get until I am allowed to do this?’ She [Meghan] was going to end her life. It shouldn’t have to get to that.”

He also critiqued the parenting of his father, Prince Charles, and said that his and Megan’s attempts to ask for help were met with “total silence, total neglect.”

The Daily Mail suggests Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles were “absolutely gobsmacked” by Harry’s words on the show. The same source suggests relations with his relatives are “hanging by a thread.”

The show is a big hit for Apple TV+

The show seems to have been a hit for Apple, however.

According to insiders, The Me You Can’t See quickly became the most-watched program on Apple TV+ worldwide after the series debuted. It also drew 25% new viewers to the service, and a “more than 40% increase” in average weekend viewership in the United Kingdom.

A followup town hall-style special titled The Me You Can’t See: A Path Forward will premiere on Apple TV+ this Friday.
