Apple finally revealed the release date for its upcoming documentary series co-created by Oprah Winfrey and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex. The Me You Can’t See, as it is now known, will debut May 21, the company said in a press release Monday.

First announced in 2019, before Harry and wife Meghan’s highly publicized split from the U.K.’s royal family, the series supposedly will focus on the “human spirit fighting back from the darkest places.”

Apple name-checked multiple high-profile participants who will appear in The Me You Can’t See. The lineup includes celebs Lady Gaga and Glenn Close, basketball stars DeMar DeRozan and Langston Galloway, Olympic boxer Virginia “Ginny” Fuchs, celebrity chef Rashad Armstead and mental health advocate Zak Williams.

Guiding honest discussions

Harry, an outspoken supporter of mental health initiatives, told the Telegraph in 2019 that he hopes the show will help people.

“If the viewers can relate to the pain and perhaps the experience, then it could save lives, as we will focus on prevention and positive outcomes,” he said. “What I have learnt and I continue to learn in the space of mental health, mental illness and self-awareness is that all roads lead back to our mental wellbeing, how we look after ourselves and each other.”

Winfrey recently interviewed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in the two-hour Oprah With Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special. The interview pulled in at least 17.1 million viewers.

For the new show, Harry and Winfrey will be on the same side of the interviewer’s, err, chair. Together, they will “guide honest discussions” with high-profile guests and a “wide range of people from across the globe.”

“We are born into different lives, brought up in different environments, and as a result are exposed to different experiences. But our shared experience is that we are all human,” said Prince Harry in a statement. “The majority of us carry some form of unresolved trauma, loss or grief, which feels – and is – very personal. Yet the last year has shown us that we are all in this together, and my hope is that this series will show there is power in vulnerability, connection in empathy, and strength in honesty.”

The Me You Can’t See: Coming soon to Apple TV+

This isn’t the first streaming deal for Harry. He and Meghan’s production company, Archewell Productions, recently signed a multiyear deal with Netflix, with an upcoming series focused on the Invictus Games. No number has been announced, but a figure of $150 million is rumored.

Winfrey, who signed a deal with Apple TV+ a few years back, already has a couple of interview series on the streaming service.

Cupertino has not yet revealed ratings for any Apple TV+ shows. However, with the combined name recognition of Harry and Winfrey, it presumably hopes to scoop up a big audience with The Me You Can’t See.
