In a surprise move, Apple just introduced a brand-new color for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini — purple.
The new color spiced up Apple’s “Spring Loaded” special event Tuesday. It’s an unusual move for Apple, which rarely introduces new colors or finishes mid-cycle.
“The new purple finish, just in time for spring, adds another bright and fun option to the lineup, and we think customers are going to love it,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, in a statement.
Also at the event, Apple unveiled new M1-powered iMacs and iPad Pros, new AirTag trackers, a revamped Apple TV 4K with new Siri Remote and a redesigned Podcasts app.
Purple iPhone 12 preorders start April 23
Preorders for the new purple phones will begin Friday, April 23. They ship on Friday, April 30.
