Apple Music TV, the 24-hour streaming music video channel that serves as Apple’s version of classic MTV, is now available outside the United States.

Apple launched the free music video channel stateside last October. Jump forward six months, and it can now be viewed by people in Canada and the United Kingdom. While that represents only a small fraction of the places Apple does business in, it suggests that the company is keen to roll out this service further afield.

As I wrote at the time, the concept of a channel playing music videos is fascinatingly retro — and I don’t mean that in a bad way. MTV has long since moved beyond playing music videos, to the point where younger folks might not even remember that MTV stood for “Music Television.”

Apple’s channel has a bit less attitude than MTV had back in the day. In essence, it’s a jukebox service that just plays popular music videos, with little in the way of other programming. But, for many, that will be enough. At minimum, it’s an alternative to autoplaying videos on YouTube.

For Cupertino, it offers a chance to promote Apple Music and certain curated videos. To tune in, check out our handy “how to” guide here. The Apple Music TV channel (which I’ve confirmed works for me here in the United Kingdom) can be found on the Apple TV app on macOS and iOS.

9to5Mac, which reported the expansion, points out that Apple is featuring songs from British artists like Ed Sheeran and Stormzy to mark the channel’s debut outside of the States. Apple hasn’t said which markets it plans to bring Apple Music TV to next.
