Apple TV+ and Skydance Animation inked a deal that will see two new movies and a series released on the streaming video service. The upcoming films for children are Luck and Spellbound. Plus, Apple signed up for two seasons of The Search for WondLa.
Skydance Animation for Apple TV+
Luck is about a very unlucky girl who stumbles upon a magical world of good and bad luck. It’s reportedly scheduled to premier February 18, 2022.
Spellbound is a musical about a girl who sets out to break the spell that has divided her kingdom in two. The music will be from Oscar-winner Alan Menken, while Glenn Slater will provide lyrics. The film is currently scheduled for November 11, 2022.
The Search for WondLa is based on a series of sci-fi books by Tony DiTerlizzi about a girl searching for a family. There’s no word on when it will debut.
Skydance Animation is the cartoon division of a production company responsible for the Star Trek, Mission Impossible and Terminator franchises.
Apple TV+ is for kids too
These films and series will join a growing collection of other offerings for kids on Apple’s streaming service. The most recent addition is The Snoopy Show, which is all about Charlie Brown’s irrepressible pooch.
But that’s just the start. There’s Wolfwalkers, an acclaimed animated film about shape-shifting girls. Kids can get a touch of Zen with Stillwater. Younger children can enjoy Doug Unplugs and Helpsters.
But it’s not all kid stuff. Adults can appreciate the collection of 50+ series and films, either available now or coming soon. There are thrillers, crime dramas, comedies and documentaries. Apple TV+ costs $4.99 a month.
