Time to Walk, a new Apple Watch feature for Fitness+ subscribers, promises interesting and encouraging audio stories to liven up walking for exercise.

“Walking is the most popular physical activity in the world, and one of the healthiest things we can do for our bodies,” said Jay Blahnik, Apple’s senior director of Fitness Technologies. “With Time to Walk, we’re bringing weekly original content to Apple Watch in Fitness+ that includes some of the most diverse, fascinating, and celebrated guests offering inspiration and entertainment to help our users keep moving through the power of walking.”

Time to Walk brings inspiring stories

The first four Time to Walk episodes are guest hosted by country music star Dolly Parton, NBA player Draymond Green, musician Shawn Mendes and Emmy Award winner Uzo Aduba. They share the lessons they’ve learned, their meaningful memories, and their thoughts on purpose and gratitude.

Just as listeners are supposed to be walking, the celebrity guests themselves are either walking outside or in locations that are meaningful to them. And the experience isn’t entirely aural. Photos appear on the listener’s Apple Watch timed to illuminate a corresponding memory the guest shares.

Following each story is a short playlist of songs that has given the guest motivation and inspiration.

A new Apple Fitness+ feature

Time to Walk episodes — each 25 to 40 minutes long — are automatically downloaded to every Apple Watch with a Fitness+ subscription. When the user starts an episode, a workout automatically begins. The audio can be access with AirPods or paired Bluetooth headphones.

New episodes will appear in the Workout app on Apple Watch from a different guest each Monday through the end of April.
