Those with very deep pockets can make their AirPods Max colors even more personalized. Ear cushions for the headphones are replaceable and come in a variety of hues. They sure aren‘t cheap, though.

But save some money for a charger, because there’s no power adapter in the box.

Fresh AirPods Max color possibilities

AirPods Max is available in five colors: space grey, silver, green, sky blue and pink. Those colors are on both the headband and the ear cushions.

And Apple will soon begin offering replacement AirPods Max Ear Cushions that come in these same colors. That means someone could combine a black headband with red cushions, for example. To be clear, this isn’t possible now. Apple only sells these headphones in the five colors, and headband and cushions must match.

But someone willing to add a $69 pair of ear cushions to the $549 price tag for Apple’s new over-the-ear headphones could get a really unique look. Or a couple buying two pair could choose contrasting colors then swap cushions.

No AirPods Max charger for you

The Apple online store product page for AirPods Max clearly spells out what comes in the box. While there is a Lightning-to-USB-C charging cable, there’s no power adapter. That’s in line with a new Apple policy of not bundling a wall charger with its iPhones any more.

As the new headphones includes a Lightning port, this accessory can juice up with the same cable and power adapter as their iPhone. But users of these headphones might not find themselves needed a charger very often — Apple promises up to 20 hours of listening time.

And AirPods Max comes with a smart case that puts the headphones into an “ultra-low-power state,” according to Apple. This is the same case that’s already been the butt of so many jokes.
