Some iPhone 12 users are reporting problems with either battery life or dropped calls. The difficulties aren’t happening to every user, but they seem to be fairly widespread.
There have been complaints about all four variations of the iPhone 12, not a specific model.
iPhone 12 battery problems
A discussion thread about iPhone 12 Pro battery drain on the official Apple Support forum has been going since October. The original poster complains that the battery level on his new handset drops about 4% an hour. Follow-up comments corroborate the problem, with users saying they turned off background app refresh but their iPhone 12 will still drop 40% overnight.
Multiple users on the thread reporting asking Apple to run remote diagnostics on their phones, and everything checked out. This most likely means there’s a problem somewhere in iOS 14 causing the battery drain. But again, this doesn’t affect every iPhone 12 user.
iPhone 12 dropped calls
There are also complaints about dropped calls with Apple’s latest handsets. And one of the people affected is Lewis Wallace, Cult of Mac’s managing editor. “I’d say at least 50% of the calls I place on my 12 Pro Max drop. Is it my phone? Verizon? My friends’ phones? Who knows. But it’s happened with multiple people,” he said.
A Reddit thread from an iPhone 12 Pro user also complaining of dropped calls garnered significant attention. This user experienced the problem for about a month, then posted an update saying, “The issue has mostly disappeared on my 12 Pro, with no clear action on my part.”
At this point, all that’s known is that some users are having problems with battery life or dropped calls. There’s been no statement from Apple about either issue. The best that users of the iPhone 12 series dealing with either difficulty can do is keep installing iOS 14 updates as soon as they’re introduced, as these will contain any bug fixes.
