Apple green lights the first animated Harriet the Spy

The series centers on a girl who wants to be a writer, and in order to be a good writer, you need to know everything, and in order to know everything, you have to be a spy.

Feldstein will star as Harriet, an adventurous 11-year-old girl. Lynch will voice the role of Ole Golly, Harriet’s larger-than-life, no-nonsense nanny.

The series is based on Harriet the Spy, a book by Louise Fitzhugh published in 1964. Not at all a children’s fantasy, it deals with realistic characters in New York City. It’s not yet known if the upcoming animated adaptation will be as gritty as the original. The adaptation is being written by Will McRobb (co-creator of The Adventures of Pete & Pete).

Apple TV+ has plenty for kids

A release date for this coming-of-age adventure was not revealed. The debut will be on Apple TV+, where it will join a number of other children’s programs.

That includes Ghostwriter, a series that won the 2020 Emmy for “Outstanding Children’s or Family Viewing Program.” And Peanuts in Space: Secrets of Apollo 10 won an Emmy too. Several other children’s shows on Apple’s streaming video service also received Emmy nominations, including Helpsters and Snoopy in Space.
