Travel to before the events of HBO’s hit series in Game of Thrones: Tale of Crows, a new game released Friday on Apple Arcade.

Explore the history of the Night’s Watch in this narrative-driven, real-time idle game that extends beyond the TV series. Become the shield that guards the realms of men, the sword in the darkness and the enduring sentry upon the Wall.

Return to the shadow of the Wall in Game of Thrones: Tale of Crows

Devolver Digital and That Silly Studio, the developers of this game, say, “Players will etch their own tales into the annals of Lord Commanders and their sworn brothers over centuries as they shore up stocks, defenses, and recruits at Castle Black as well as send ranging parties out to navigate the wild North, riding into the lands beyond the Wall unsure of what awaits them.”

Expect to deal with unknown dangers, and face enemies old and new. But this is not a hack-and-slash game. Players will set up events that will carry on even when the game is closed. Send an expedition from Castle Black beyond the Wall and into the North, and you’ll receive notifications on their progress.

This is a single-person adventure game for Mac, iPad, iPhone and Apple TV. It’s for players age 12 and up, and it supports game controllers.

Available today on Apple Arcade

Game of Thrones: Tale of Crows launched Friday on Apple’s subscription gaming service. It joins over 100 other games, all for a single $4.99-a-month payment. There are no other costs, though, as Apple bans in-app purchases, ads and loot boxes.

Anyone looking for a more traditional RPG should try Oceanhorn 2 or Towers of Everland on Apple Arcade.
