Get ready for some high plains drifting because Mario Kart Tour is headed west. To the Wild West, more precisely!

Having travelled all over the world in previous updates, the mobile-focused version of Mario Kart is now going back in time to frontier country with its latest update. And it’s brought some appropriately themed characters along for the ride over yonder.

The Wild West Tour will run on Mario Kart Tour from now through August 10.

Alongside location-specific tracks, it also introduces new characters in the form of Cowboy Wario and, for the first time ever in a Mario Kart game, Nabbit, a character who first appeared in New Super Mario Bros U., has since appeared in New Super Luigi U, Mario Golf, and more.

As with all the new characters in Mario Kart Tour, these new characters are available to unlock only during the tour in which they are introduced. However, if you unlock them you will be able to use them at a later date.

Mario Kart Tour heads to the Wild West

Mario Kart Tour launched on iPhone and iPad in September 2019. It has been a big money-maker for Nintendo in both downloads and spending on in-app purchases. According to Apple, it was the most downloaded App Store game of 2019.

To keep it fresh, Nintendo keeps tweaking the game by adding new tracks and the like. It has also made some big changes to the gameplay. In March, Nintendo introduced a multiplayer mode for all players (rather than just an initial few for the beta.) In May, it added a new Team Races mode. This lets players form into four separate teams for races. Most recently, Nintendo announced that it is adding landscape orientation and new controls.

You can download Mario Kart Tour for free from the App Store. Although the game includes in-app purchases, these aren’t necessary for you to enjoy the fun Nintendo racing action.
