The just-released Plugable USB-C Multiport Adapter offers the same video and USB ports as an Apple adapter, but at a much lower price.
Both products include HDMI, USB-C, and USB-A ports, and can be used with a MacBook or iPad Pro. But the Plugable version is better suited for those on a tight budget.

Plugable USB-C Multiport Adapter adds connectivity at low cost
The HDMI port in Plugable’s USB-C adapter can handle 4K video at 30Hz. It greatly simplifies attaching an external monitor to a MacBook or iPad Pro.
And the USBC-MD103 includes, a USB-A port for connecting legacy peripherals, from keyboards to printers. When connected to external drives, it can transfer data at up to 5Gbps. The multiport hub also has a USB-C port with 60W pass-through charging.
In addition to macOS and iPadOS, this accessory is compatible with Windows, Linux and Samsung DeX. “The USBC-MD103 delivers compatibility and cost benefits over other similar products already on the market,” said Plugable Founder Bernie Thompson. “It’s a must-have for laptops with just one or two USB-C ports.”
The Plugable USB-C Multiport Adapter costs $24.95. It can be purchased now on Amazon, Newegg, and Walmart. And there’s a $5 off launch discount on Amazon.com.
For comparison, the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter is $69.
