Pro-tip-4 You might have assumed it was impossible to capture a CarPlay screenshot; there’s no option for it in CarPlay itself, after all. But not only is it possible, it’s also incredibly easy.

We’ll show you how.

If you’ve ever wanted to show someone your CarPlay setup, or how to use certain CarPlay features, screenshots are a great way to do that — especially during these times of social distancing.

And the good news is that if you know how to take screenshots on iPhone, you already know how to take screenshots on CarPlay.

How to take a screenshot on CarPlay

These are the steps you need to follow:

  1. Plug your iPhone into your car to start CarPlay.
  2. Navigate to the screen, app, or feature you want to capture.
  3. Snap a screenshot on your iPhone. On devices with Face ID, press the volume up and sleep/wake buttons. On devices with Touch ID, press the Home and sleep/wake buttons.

This will send two screenshots to your Camera Roll — one from iPhone and one from CarPlay. You can then edit, annotate, and share from the Photos app.

Sadly, it’s not possible to capture a CarPlay screenshot without also capturing an iPhone screenshot. But we don’t mind that given how easy this is. It certainly beats remembering a new screenshot shortcut.
