The iPhone 12 Flip is the foldable iOS device many are hoping for. This proposed concept fits a large screen into a tiny package.

While currently only a dream, Apple is hard at work on technologies that could eventually make it real.

Watch a video of the iPhone 12 Flip concept now:

The video from ConceptsiPhone imagines a small iOS handset with an external display. This opens vertically to present a large internal display. There’s no notch, though what might be a “hole punch” front-facing camera sits near the top of the screen.

On the outside of the iPhone 12 Flip rests a trio of camera lenses and a LiDAR scanner — features expected in the real iPhone 12.

This isn’t the first proposal to use the classic flip phone design. A similar foldable iPhone concept came out this spring. And both are close to the revamped Motorola Razr that launched earlier this year.

Other concept artists would like to Apple make an iPhone that unfolds horizontally into a small iPad.

Foldable iPhone 12 Flip is only a concept

All the rumors and leaks point to the upcoming 2020 iPhone models being updated versions of their predecessors, not radical redesigns like this foldable iPhone concept.

Still, the company continues to explore the concept. It received a patent for flexible batteries in April. And earlier this year it got one for an innovative hinge mechanism designed to prevent flexible displays from creasing.
