Apple began taking pre-orders for the second-generation iPhone SE on Friday, and in the U.S. already ran out out of its stock for release on launch day.
Orders placed placed earlier today will arrive on April 24. But the official Apple Store website indicates that orders for the new $399 iPhone placed now won’t arrive until May.
Lots of 2020 iPhone SE orders in the US
Currently, orders placed on the U.S. Apple Store for the budget iOS handset with free shipping arrive between May 4 and May 6. Shoppers can speed that up a bit by paying for expedited shipping, in which case the 2020 iPhone SE will arrive between May 1 and May 5.
However, the same isn’t true in other countries. Order this product from the UK Apple Store now and it’ll arrive April 24, launch date. It’s the same in Australia. Orders placed in Canada will arrive in 5 to 7 business days, which could be April 24.
Either U.S. demand for the 2020 iPhone SE is exceptionally high, or Apple had a limited pre-release supply in this country.
Overview of the new $399 iPhone
From the outside, the 2020 iPhone SE is identical to the now-discontinued iPhone 8. There’s a 4.7-inch screen, a Home button, Touch ID and a 12MP camera. But on the inside is the cutting-edge Apple A13 processor as in the iPhone 11 series.
The refreshed iPhone SE starts at $399 with 64GB of storage, while 128GB and 256GB options are also available for $449 and $549, respectively. Available color options include black, white, and (PRODUCT)RED.
The 2020 iPhone SE is compatible with all accessories made for iPhone 7 and iPhone 8, while Apple has a fresh lineup of silicone and leather cases of its own that are available to order from $35.
