YouTube Music for iOS now shows song lyrics for supported tracks

YouTube Music’s latest update for iOS gives you the ability to view song lyrics for the first time.

The feature helps YouTube Music better compete with the likes of Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Spotify — which have offered song lyrics for some time. But YouTube doesn’t do real-time tracking yet.

Song lyrics are a nice addition to any music app, so it’s good to see that the list of services still lacking them is slowly diminishing. YouTube still can’t show you lyrics on the web yet, but they are live on mobile.

YouTube Music bags song lyrics on mobile

You can see song lyrics in YouTube Music by tapping the “i” button on the left side of your screen while a song is playing. Not all tracks are support yet, but it seems lyrics are available for popular titles.

YouTube says its lyrics are supplied by LyricFind and get updated on a daily basis. If your favorite song doesn’t have lyrics yet, then, that could change any day now.

Lyrics appear beneath a track’s artwork and title. It should be noted, however, that they are static. Real-time lyrics that follow the track — like those in Apple Music — aren’t available for YouTube users yet.

If you do use YouTube Music on the web, you’ll be pleased to know YouTube is working on making lyrics available there later.
