Apple revealed this afternoon that it renewed the crime drama thriller for a second season that will have Spencer reprise her role as Poppy Parnell who will investigate another mysterious murder case. The show was originally billed as a limited-series but Apple apparently thinks Poppy’s story isn’t finished yet.

Truth Be Told season 2
“Working with Octavia Spencer has been a dream come true for me. I am honored to continue to build the character of Poppy Parnell with her…” said Tramble Spellman. “Apple continues to show their tremendous support for us and the show. I am thrilled to dive back into exploring our national obsession with true crime and how it plays out with our rich canvas of compelling characters.”
Reese Witherspoon’s company Hello Sunshine will produce season 2 along with Chernin Entertainment and Endeavor Content. The second season will unfold around a new case, turning the series into a quasi-anthology akin to the NBC comedy Trial & Error.
Season 1 of Truth Be Told folled Spencer’s character Poppy as she reopens the murder case of a young man she may have mistakenly helped put in prison. The show provides inside America’s odd obsessions with true crime podcasts. Apple has also ordered second seasons of its shows For All Mankind, See, Little America, Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet, and Dickinson.
