TV maker LG has confirmed it will add Dolby Atmos support to 2018, 2019 and newer 2020 models of selected televisions this year for both the Apple TV app and AirPlay 2.

In a published report Thursday, a company representative told FlatpanelsHD that support for Dolby Atmos will be delivered “later this year.”

A specific date or time frame was not provided, nor were specifics on if Dolby Atmos support will be available on all LB models featuring the Apple TV app and AirPlay 2. An LG spokesperson was not immediately available for comment to Cult of Mac.

Dolby Atmos is supported on the Apple TV streaming device, but Samsung televisions along with Roku and FireTV devices do not currently support Dolby Atmos as part of the Apple TV app.

Earlier this week, LG became the first Apple TV partner to offer Dolby Vision streaming from within the app.

Back in January at CES, LG announced a new lineup of TVs for 2020 – more than a dozen new televisions with 4K and 8K displays – along with a new Apple TV app. The app will work with AirPlay2 and HomeKit and on LG models that go back to 2018.
