The newest iPhone 12 rumor claims Apple will introduce four brand-new handsets this fall, including a compact “iPhone 12 mini.”
The smallest model could be different to the rumored iPhone SE 2, but not much bigger in size. It is expected to pack Apple’s latest technology — just like its larger siblings — inside the same design.
This year’s iPhone refresh is shaping up to be one of the most important in the history of iPhone. All signs point to it being the first to support the blazing-fast 5G networks of the future.
It could also be one of the biggest iPhone lineups Apple has ever introduced. The latest rumor promises four new models, with screen sizes starting at just 5.4 inches.
The iPhone 12 quartet
Citing unconfirmed but supposedly trusted information, LetsGoDigital reports the new “iPhone 12 mini” will appeal to those who want a compact handset that’s just as powerful as Apple’s biggest models.
“This phone will fully match the other 2020 models in terms of design and functions,” the report reads, machine translated. It is expected to pack an OLED screen and Apple’s next-generation A14 chipset.
The iPhone 12 mini will apparently be accompanied by a 6.1-inch iPhone 12, a 5.8-inch iPhone 12 Pro, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max. The differences between all four will come down to their cameras.
The report claims iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 will have just two rear-facing cameras, while the two Pro models will feature three — plus a rear-facing time-of-flight (ToF) sensor.
Better OLED displays
LetsGoDigital backtracks on its previous claim that at least one of this year’s iPhones will launch without a notch. It says Apple isn’t ready to take that step just yet. But we could see better OLED displays.
All four iPhone 12 options are expected to pack super-speedy panels with a refresh rate that maxes out at 120Hz. That matches the 2018 iPad Pro’s display with its excellent ProMotion technology.
They will also feature Face ID, the report adds — and it could be combined with a Touch ID sensor that is integrated into the iPhone’s display for the first time. Reliable TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also predicted the return of Touch ID in 2020.
The new handsets will reportedly sport the same design, which won’t be too dissimilar to that of the iPhone 11 series. But they could be a lot thinner, with the 12 Pro Max measuring just 7.4 mm — 0.7 mm less than last year’s iPhone 11 Pro Max.
Coming in September
LetsGoDigital says all four models in the iPhone 12 lineup will be unveiled in September — as expected.
We obviously advise you to take these claims with a pinch of salt for now. We’ve heard some of them before from incredibly reliable sources, but others are a little questionable at this point.
