Aside from saying that Apple TV+ pulled in “millions of users” in its first week, Apple hasn’t shared any stats about how Apple’s streaming service is doing. Disney+, on the other hand, seems to be blowing away the competition.

Two months after Disney+ launched, its app has been downloaded close to 41 million times on the App Store and Google Play app store. In total, it has generated an estimated $97.2 million in user spending.

The data comes from leading user analytics firm Sensor Tower. It doesn’t compare the first 60 days of Apple TV+, since it does not have this data. Nor does it have data on the first 60 days of Netflix, which pre-dates its records.

However, it does compare it with other new streaming services. Both in terms of number of downloads and revenue, Disney+ smashes competition such as HBO Now. HBO Now — which features content such as Game of Thrones — raked in $23.7 million in its first 60 days. It accumulated around 1.5 million downloads.

Meanwhile, apps from Showtime and DC Universe attracted significantly less revenue and downloads.

Disney+ is off to a strong start in first 60 days

Unlike Apple TV+’s relative paucity of content, Disney+ is stacked full of things to watch. There are movies from Pixar, Marvel, the Star Wars galaxy, National Geographic and Fox. There’s also a combination of old shows like the classic X-Men cartoons from the 1990s and new shows like Star Wars spinoff The Mandalorian.

There’s still a long way to go until they’ll be able to catch up with Netflix’s 158.3 million global subscribers, however. Based on these numbers, however, Disney+ is off to a strong start. As I reported yesterday, it was the most downloaded app in the United States in Q4 2019.

And since it will only be arriving in Europe in March 2020, there’s lots more room to grow.
