UPDATE: The wait wasn’t long: Apple’s new AirPods Pro with noise cancellation are already here.

Apple is reportedly about to take its wireless earbuds professional. Get ready for AirPods Pro with noise cancellation and a range of color options.

But they’ll also supposedly cost dramatically more than Apple’s current in-ear headphones.

AirPods Pro go all colorful

The third-generation AirPods will come in eight colors, including black, white and midnight green, according to Economic Daily News. In addition, waterproofing will allegedly be included, though exactly what this means isn’t clear. It’s possible these in-ear headphones can even be worn while swimming.

This information about AirPods Pro supposedly comes from unnamed people working in Apple’s supply chain. But that’s not the only source. The soon-to-be-released iOS 13.2 references AirPods with noise cancellation. A glyph shows a redesign that includes soft, interchangeable tips rather than the current AirPods’ entirely hard plastic exterior.

The change in form factor supposedly will require a redesign of the AirPods charging case. Accessory-maker ESR leapt ahead to announce cases to cover Apple’s AirPods Pro case.

AirPods Pro will cost $260, according to EDN. That’s a considerable uptick from the $159 base price for the second-generation AirPods that debuted this spring.

It’s possible the current models will stay in Apple’s lineup, with the new Pro version becoming a premium offering.

Despite the specificity about the supposed new AirPods features, EDN’s sources don’t have a solid idea of when AirPods Pro will be released. They could land before the end of this month, sometime during the holiday shopping season, or in early 2020.
