The Spotify update we’ve been waiting for since the launch of iOS 13 has landed. The latest version of the app finally adds Siri support, so you can ask the virtual assistant to play artists, tracks, and more.
It also brings a brand-new Apple TV app.
One of the many changes and new features in iOS 13 is a SiriKit API that lets third-party music streaming services take advantage of Apple’s virtual assistant for the first time.
This is huge for Spotify, the biggest music streaming service on the planet, with more than 96 million paying subscribers. It started beta testing Siri support in late September. Now it’s here.
Spotify adds Siri support
You can ask Siri to play artists, albums, tracks, and playlists after updating to the latest version of the app. Simply remember to add “with Spotify” to the end of your Siri requests.
Siri support is available on iPhone, iPad, and AirPods. It can also be used with CarPlay and HomePod via your iPhone.
If you forget to tell Siri to use Spotify, it will default to Apple Music as normal. And if you haven’t already updated to iOS 13, this functionality won’t work at all — the latest software is required.
What else is new in Spotify?
This update also makes it so that Spotify’s Data Saver feature will be enabled automatically when you activate Low Data Mode on your iPhone or iPad. And it brings a brand-new Apple TV app.
